Happy Sunday everybody! Just when you think this year couldn’t get any weirder, there comes the next thing. It’s hard to imagine where can we go from here… In addition to this week’s selection I hope you’ll check out my post on ms-jd.org, I wrote about some important stuff there. Happy reading! The July 1st march: Another endangered democratic landmark for Hong Kong This issue is getting way less coverage in world news than the graveness of it would deserve. You can support the campaign to support democracy and freedom in Hong Kong at https://www.now.world/freedom. The COVID-19 tracking apps ecosystem unraveled:…

Happy Sunday and happy weekend!  After a first week of getting back to work and the outside world in Hungary I can say that some people wrongly assume that life is fully back to normal again, and we can act like nothing irregular happened in the meantime. It is hard to proceed with caution and practice social distancing when other people just don’t seem to care at all. It’s obviously not true for everybody, but too many people in my opinion. What are your experiences with easing up restrictions? Let me know in the comments. Here’s today’s offering. Pandemic Intrigue…

Happy Sunday and happy March! Spring is on the way! On the off-chance you haven’t seen this already, even though it seemed to be everywhere this week (rightly so), you should watch it now. Also, I just wanted it to be on my blog, because it’s that good. Here it is, for this week leading up to International Women’s Day next weekend. The Outbreak of COVID-19 Coronavirus: are the International Health Regulations fit for purpose? This is a long read with dry legal knowledge, no panic inciting, we have enough of that elsewhere.  The UN is Warning of a Massive…

International Open Day in The Hague

On 22 September it was my second time attending The Hague International Open Day, which is held every year on a Sunday closest to the International Day of Peace (21 September), with a week long of programs surrounding it. Although The Hague has been a centre of legal knowledge for years, it was then UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who called it the “legal capital of the world” in a speech in the early 90s. This and the overall academic history of the city inspired the government of The Netherlands to lobby for more and more international organisations to move or…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope you are enjoying the last bits of summery weather as much as I do. In fact I will be off for a late vacation for a few days next week. Here’s what  I’ve read before leaving. WHERE DO THE ROHINGYA GO? I never change the spelling of titles, and in this case perhaps all-caps is a well-deserved emphasis. The ICC investigation is good news, but given how long it usually takes, we need more. President Trump Will Preside Over a UN Security Council Meeting About Iran. Happy Sunday! The New Year started with this great initiative and I was so glad to see most of the “celebrities” I am following standing behind this cause. There is a reason why I love all these people, I thought.  Also, it is Golden Globes Sunday, and I can’t wait to see them all wearing black tonight. Award season is one of the very few perks of these gloomy, grey after-holidays times, and I am excited for many of my favorites. To only name my biggest favorite, good luck to Mariah Carey and Marc Shaiman tonight! I hope you all had…

Happy Sunday, Everybody! I have had the best time in London earlier this week. Although sunny London is still my favorite London, snowy London was a spectacular sight to see! And I’ll be back in just four months! Until then, there is a holiday season to get through. Every year I pledge not to become so overwhelmed and overloaded by this time, and every year I fail. It is a busy time at work and with everything else to get done, by the time it’s actually Christmas I just wish to get it over with and be able to sleep….

Happy Sunday! This is one of the few occasions when I don’t even know what to add to all that’s going on. I am quite a bit overwhelmed these days not just with what’s going on in the world, but in my personal life mostly. So, I will just provide you with some weekend reading. A Major Global Report About Nutrition Around World Shows That We Are All Eating the Wrong Things Indeed, we are. And we need to find out what to do about it, especially on parts of the world where it is not about personal choices and…

Happy Sunday! I kept watching these Spanish news channels for language learning purposes even before things got interesting. The one thing I can thank the Catalan government now is for contributing to my education like that. But jokes aside, I keep wondering about the right to self-determination in this context, as to what about the rights of those Catalans who do not wish to switch nationalities and most probably loose their EU citizenship? Secession is indeed a very delicate issue with a bunch of questions which even the most seasoned constitutionalists only guessing the answers to. Check out this week’s…

Happy Sunday, everybody! We have the nicest fall weather in Hungary these days, I hope you are doing good too. There are a lot of disturbing things going on in the world right now, from natural disasters through political nonsense to harrassment of women. Even if you are fortunate enough to be safe from it all, please take a moment to think about how you could help. Because we all can help, I believe and I will keep repeating this. Here’s a couple more disturbing but important stories for you… Populist International Law? The Suspended Independence and the Normative Value…
