Blabbing world affairs

Back when I started blogging, I only knew I wanted to write. After a bit of experimenting I knew I had to pick a theme I was genuinely interested in. So why indeed is it world affairs I decided to be blabbing about? Right after high school I went to learn sociology. At first it was only to prepare for law school and I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to finish it all the way through, but then I became really interested in the topics we’ve learnt about. To this day, I love reading and studying behavioural sciences, mostly…

Happy Sunday everybody! Just when you think this year couldn’t get any weirder, there comes the next thing. It’s hard to imagine where can we go from here… In addition to this week’s selection I hope you’ll check out my post on ms-jd.org, I wrote about some important stuff there. Happy reading! The July 1st march: Another endangered democratic landmark for Hong Kong This issue is getting way less coverage in world news than the graveness of it would deserve. You can support the campaign to support democracy and freedom in Hong Kong at https://www.now.world/freedom. The COVID-19 tracking apps ecosystem unraveled:…

Happy Sunday! This year is getting weirder and weirder, I guess and one can only hope we will come out of it into an improved and healed world in every way.  In Hungary official communication suggests we are over the pandemic (COVID-19, there is no communication about the other one, i.e. racism), theaters are opening, beaches are crowded, people are out and about like nothing happened, while there are still several new cases every day. I can’t really decide whether I am overly precautious for not wanting to mingle with people for a while or they are irresponsible for doing…

Happy Sunday everybody! I am coming at you from what feels like a whole week of rain, and I kind of drained by it by now, I really want my summer already! Things don’t look brighter in the world either, feels like I haven’t heard any good news in ages. Do you have anything? Please share with me, I need it! I didn’t post last week’s collection, so this is going to be a bit longer, than usual, I hope you don’t mind. Happy reading! Happy Sunday and happy June!  I can’t believe it’s almost June already, it feels like we’ve skipped several weeks of this year, I don’t even know where they went. Like this pandemic wasn’t enough already, further grave things are happening in the world. Aren’t we supposed to move forward and not backwards with this kind of stuff? Everybody, who thinks this is not their problem, please educate yourselves (I loved this post for resources) and find ways to do good in the world. It needs us.  Let’s get to reading. Why the WHO is failing and how to fix it…

Happy Sunday and happy weekend!  After a first week of getting back to work and the outside world in Hungary I can say that some people wrongly assume that life is fully back to normal again, and we can act like nothing irregular happened in the meantime. It is hard to proceed with caution and practice social distancing when other people just don’t seem to care at all. It’s obviously not true for everybody, but too many people in my opinion. What are your experiences with easing up restrictions? Let me know in the comments. Here’s today’s offering. Pandemic Intrigue…

Happy Sunday and happy March! Spring is on the way! On the off-chance you haven’t seen this already, even though it seemed to be everywhere this week (rightly so), you should watch it now. Also, I just wanted it to be on my blog, because it’s that good. Here it is, for this week leading up to International Women’s Day next weekend. The Outbreak of COVID-19 Coronavirus: are the International Health Regulations fit for purpose? This is a long read with dry legal knowledge, no panic inciting, we have enough of that elsewhere.  The UN is Warning of a Massive…

Happy Sunday! I hope you are well and safe this weekend! Here’s some reading for you. Am I the only one to think that most of this list should be applied all the time, regardless of world health emergencies? 🤔 The source is of course the World Health Organization, be sure to check out their website clicking here for many more useful information (and some myth-busting) about the coronavirus. Happy Sunday! We are past the gloomiest day of the year (last Monday, according to general understanding, but no science at all), so we can expect things to be brighter from here on. I mean once Christmas passes, I am so over winter weather anyway, I can’t wait for it to be summer already… How about you? Here’s some weekend reading that unfortunately will not cheer you up, but I hope you’ll enjoy them nontheless. How Multilateral Cooperation Can Stop the Coronavirus Outbreak From Spreading This is yet another example when internationalism and international organizations are indeed helping humankind. One…

Happy weekend everybody! I am trying to slowly get back into the habit of zeroing my Feedly by the weekend, so I started collecting some worhty blog posts to recommend during the week for you. Although I’ve taken quite long breaks between posts lately, this is actually the 250th Sunday Smack, believe it or not! I’d really like to revive it somehow, but I’m not making promises, just see how it goes. Here is a small collection of good reads in the topic of world affairs/international law for this weekend! What do you think? Let me know which one did…
