The United Nations Conference on International Organization, commonly known as the San Francisco Conference, was held from 25 April – 26 June 1945.
…representatives of over eighty per cent of the world’s population, people of every race, religion and continent; all determined to set up an organization which would preserve peace and help build a better world… they had to produce a Charter acceptable to all the countries. (History of the UN)
In San Francisco, the Charter of the United Nations would be discussed, debated, and, on 26 June 1945, signed. China, first victim of aggression by an Axis power, would have the honour of being the first to sign the Charter.
On 24 October 1945, the Charter entered into force and the United Nations formally came into existence.
