From 2000 February UN promotes linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism on International Mother Language Day. While among many related issues UNESCO focuses this year on the efforts towards a multilingual internet, it is also important to draw attention to the importance of multilingual education, teaching children 聽to understand what might not be provided to them in their mother language. The General Assembly聽proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice聽in 2007, inviting Member States to devote the day to promoting national activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the聽World Summit for Social Development聽and the twenty-fourth session of the General Assembly. thepoliticalnotebook: This is this year鈥檚 World Press Photo of the Year for 2012, taken by Paul Hansen聽of the Swedish newspaper聽Dagens Nyheter. It鈥檚 a photo taken on November 20th of the funeral of two Palestinian children in Gaza City. The children are brothers: two-year-old Suhaib Hijazi and his older brother Muhammad. They were killed in an Israeli missile strike, which hit their house. Their father鈥檚 body is also being carried further back in the picture.
