Sunday Smack

I cannot believe another week has already passed. Fortunately this next one is going to be a short one in Hungary with a public holiday on Wednesday. I could enjoy every week being like this: two days work, then one day rest, then two days work again. 🙂 OK, I am only saying this because I hate my job. And I am ever closer to finally do something about it. Until then, here’s where I can deal with things I am really interested in. Hope you’ll enjoy! On world affairs: An Unfree and Unfair Election in Azerbaijan If all these…

Another really bad week for me is coming to an end. I don’t want to go into details, because Hungarian law graduates’ career turmoils most definitely don’t constitute an international affair, especially since whenever I have such negative experience, usually a fully Hungarian company is involved. I really never gave any credit to such generalization that blames one’s mistake on all others, but now my own experiences suggest that when I hear trash about Hungarian employers, it’s not entirely baseless. If you also have some really hair-raising story about pursuing your legal career and being played anywhere in the world,…

It’s Pentecostal weekend, which also means a long weekend in a few countries: no work tomorrow in Hungary too, yay! This was a busy week in global issues and happenings, although nowhere as much as in US politics. I tried to collect only the most interesting articles and posts and cut the ones you read everywhere. I hope you’ll like these! On world affairs: Could UN Peacekeepers Be Involved in a Syria Ceasefire? After recent diplomatic developments and the planned summit on Syria, will UN peacekeepers be the right solution in this crisis? General Assembly ‘strongly’ condemns Syrian human rights…

Here’s what I have in store for you today: On world affairs: UN chemical weapons chief: time is running out to get to the scene of the crime in Syria Amidst controversial claims whether chemical weapons usage occured and by which side in Syria, here is a deeper look at the personnel of the UN inspection team. Israel’s Three Gambles I left out this issue altogether last week, because all the articles I read then…

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you are all enjoying a nice spring Sunday! Here in Hungary, we just skipped spring and from winter it turned into summer directly. I am not sure it is fortunate for the things of nature, but we are enjoying the hot weather for now. A few weeks ago, I posted about MOOCs and online learning, now I would like to recommend one of the courses I just signed up to. I wasn’t quite sure whether I can fit this in to my time schedule since there is one month left from the other course I…

It was strange reading the news about Beyonce lip-synching the National Anthem. The night before the inauguration I have seen the photos of her in a studio, with the notation of The Start Spangled Banner in hand and I thought “oh well, it is going to be pre-recorded then, whatever”. That was what I thought until the very moment she opened her mouth to sing on the ceremony. And then I thought, well, it might have been just a rehearsal on the photos… I was thinking “if this is lip-synching she is very good at it” and by the end…
