Happy Sunday! October ended just as sad as it started. I just realized that the Las Vegas shooting and the latest attack in New York happened on the first and the last days of last month. The Sustainable Development Goals are adopted!

The Sustainable Development Summit is underway in New York City. The summit kicked off yesterday with an historic opening address by Pope Francis, a call to action from Malala Yousafzai and performances by Shakira and Angelique Kidjo among other events.  The new sustainable development goals or global goals as they are widely referred to got adopted by the General Assembly too! UN highlights power of social media in modern diplomacy during day-long New York event The United Nations has held its first ever Social Media Day at its New York Headquarters on Friday, in an event featuring social media professionals, digital diplomacy practitioners and academics who were sharing their experiences, discussing trends and proving insights into their work. The United Nations is present on almost all social media platforms (including Tumblr), and indeed considers social media so important as to dedicate a whole day of events to it.

The General Debate of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly just started yesterday.  As President Obama pointed out in his speech, world leaders gathered in New York, because “others realized that we gain more from cooperation than conquest”.
