Sunday Smack

Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope you are enjoying the last bits of summery weather as much as I do. In fact I will be off for a late vacation for a few days next week. Here’s what  I’ve read before leaving. WHERE DO THE ROHINGYA GO? I never change the spelling of titles, and in this case perhaps all-caps is a well-deserved emphasis. The ICC investigation is good news, but given how long it usually takes, we need more. President Trump Will Preside Over a UN Security Council Meeting About Iran. Iran’s President May Be There, Too This might be…

Sunday Smack

Hello everybody, happy Sunday! I didn’t quite finish this post for the weekend, but then I  wanted to post it, because the articles I collected throughout the week are exceptionally good! I hope you’ll enjoy them too… Cautionary tales for the Mueller Probe from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia  That’s an unlikely comparison, I mean it would have never occurred to me to think about these two cases in parallel, but if you consider the reasoning, it makes a lot of sense. Here’s Why the Security Council Should Not Refer Burmese Authorities to the International Criminal Court …

Happy Sunday, everyone! It’s been a while. A long while. Being away from this platform had nothing to do with my professional life, as I am still very much interested in world affairs, I am still reading a lot on the topic, and I really do want to blog about it again. This week’s collection is some kind of a test as I am planning to bring this blog back to life. Today’s weather in Hungary brought a strong autumn-y feeling, and fall is a good (well, as good as ever) occasion to start new things, so I will try…

The Museum of Communism in Prague

Recently I went on a trip to Prague, which was supposed to be a spring getaway for a long weekend, but turned out to be a winter one with lots of snow and cold. We’ve spent as much time outside walking around this beautiful city as we could, but the cold forced us to seek for some indoors activities as well. One of these were visiting the Museum of Communism.  Having grown up in Hungary I do have quite a vision of communism in Eastern Europe, so I didn’t really expect any great surprises there. The exhibition starts with the…

united-nations: Dr. Martin Luther King was a visionary civil rights leader and recipient of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. In this photo from 1964, Dr. King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, are greeted by Ralph J. Dr. King’s legacy continues in many ways, including in the Sustainable Development Goals, where reduced inequalities and peace and justice are key to our vision for a better world. All of us can stand up against racial prejudice and intolerant attitudes. Be…

Happy Sunday! The New Year started with this great initiative and I was so glad to see most of the “celebrities” I am following standing behind this cause. There is a reason why I love all these people, I thought.  Also, it is Golden Globes Sunday, and I can’t wait to see them all wearing black tonight. Award season is one of the very few perks of these gloomy, grey after-holidays times, and I am excited for many of my favorites. To only name my biggest favorite, good luck to Mariah Carey and Marc Shaiman tonight! I hope you all had…
