Happy first weekend of spring and happy Oscars night everybody! So many things to be excited about! There are a lot of exciting (although worrisome) news in world affairs as well thes days… “Maidan” v. Yanukovych et al.: Ukraine and the ICC? While Ukraine never even signed the Rome Statute, one of the first decisions of the new leadership was to prosecute Yanukovych and a few of his men at the ICC. Whether it will be possible to put him on trial (at the ICC or anywhere) is another question. Obama to Putin: ‘There Will Be Costs’ To Invading Crimea…

Happy Sunday, dear readers! The weekend ends with some significant world news. The past week wasn’t quite eventful though, so there are only a couple of reads  I recommend today. On world affairs: Barack, Bibi and Iran It is a great article, but now that there is an agreement, I mainly left it in for the picture. It so perfectly describes the outcome of the negotiations as well, doesn’t it? Intervention in the Central African Republic This issue still doesn’t get enough attention in my opinion, although the threat of genocide after what Rwanda and Kosovo taught the international community…

Happy Sunday! I hope you are all having a great weekend! Again, I was quite busy at work this past week,as the number of new posts show. I am going to have to work out a new schedule for blogging to be able to keep this thing going. Thanks for everyone for sticking around and a warm welcome to all my new followers! Most of the world affairs news are still on Syria. There were two major events this week, the G20 summit and the EU Foreign Ministers Council, but still only guesses on the possible interveniton. We will probably…

Happy September, people! How do you feel about fall approaching? I am half sad and half happy as always at this time of the year. Summer is my absolute favorite season, I love the hot weather and oh how I will miss my summer wardrobe! 🙂 But then I am also eagerly waiting for ‘the season’ to begin and for things to re-accelerate. We could call this one a Syria special issue since the news and world affairs blog posts were all about Syria this week. I found some really good analysis among them. On world affairs: Congratulations President Obama…

theatlantic: The Authority to ‘Declare War’: A Power Obama Does Not Have The prime minister of the United Kingdom, armed with the Royal Prerogative, does not need Parliament’s assent to lead Britain into war. The president of the United States, holder of an office designed to keep “prerogative” powers in check, assuredly does. Yet history will apparently write that, in the late summer of 2013, the prime minister sought permission and, when Parliament denied it, receded from the field — and that a president scorned to ask, and went ahead with an act of war.  This paradox shows that American intervention…

Caustic Light on White House’s Reaction to a Terrorist Threat

Caustic Light on White House’s Reaction to a Terrorist Threat The Obama administration’s decision to evacuate so many diplomats on such short notice — however justified by the seriousness of the threat — has upset some of its foreign partners, who say the gesture contributes to a sense of panic and perceived weakness that plays into the hands of the United States’ enemies, and impedes their efforts to engage with people in their countries.

Hello everyone, how are you all doing this Sunday? I just read recently on two separate professional blogs how interviewing for a job can be character-building and how they recommend to not only keep your profile updated even if you’re not looking for a job, but to go out and interview every once in a while. Just to see how you’re doing. Well, although currently I am indeed seriously looking, I can tell you, there is something to this. If the interviewers are good, and the whole process is professional and everything, you can learn a lot in interview situations….

Happy Sunday people, how is summer going for you all? I hope you are having a wonderful weekend either you’re working or vacationing these days. Here’s a collection of some of my favorite reads this week. World affairs news of the week: This Could Actually Work – Why John Kerry’s Middle East peace push isn’t a fool’s errand OK, I know it’s too early to really rejoice about this, and that the last talks barely lasted a few weeks with no concrete result, but still. Democrat administrations had such great achievements on that front in the past, I am just…

I submitted this photo this week for http://ifuwerentafraid.tumblr.com/. Sheryl Sandberg’s LeanIn.org is asking you what would you do if you weren’t afraid? And this answer pretty much sums up my life right now. Based on the notes it got, I am not alone feeling this way. What would your answer be? Go to http://ifuwerentafraid.tumblr.com/ and submit your photo. On other news, we are after a huge heat-wave in Hungary with all-time-high temperature records breaking almost every day. I still claim I like this weather, although I admit it is less pleasant when you have work to do and errands to run. Or a…
