Happy Sunday, Everybody! Starting with the good part, it is a long weekend in Hungary due to Pentecost Monday, and it also feels like summer around here already! I am doing my best to enjoy it… I started watching season 5 of House of Cards, but unfortunately I don’t really have time to binge it all in one weekend, I am barely halfway yet. Does anybody feel like this season is full of ‘this is/could be Trump’ moments? Most probably this show was always like this, it is political satire after all, we just weren’t aware before that Trump could…

Happy Sunday, Everybody! I hope your spring is going well so far! I was on a short holiday for the second half of the week, so I missed Saint Patrick’s Day as well. Hope you all had a good one! I always wear green for work that day, but no-one ever notices (LOL), so this time I celebrated quietly at home. This week the victory of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy in the Netherlands is another hopeful sign that democrats are still in majority, and now alarmed by last year’s events, they don’t take risks by letting others…

Happy Sunday, everybody! This is the last Sunday Smack of this August and this summer, actually. In terms of the calendar, at least, I hope the weather stays warm for a while. I have spent this last weekend (made it a long weekend, actually) at home in Nagykálló with some well needed rest. September is going to be all work, no stops for me. As always, at this time of the year, I am half sad – for my favorite season to end, half excited – for things to get twirling again. And twirling, they are, this year. I have…

Happy weekend everybody! There could not possibly be anyone who needed this weekend more than me. I have worked 10-12 hours/day all week, substituting for two of my colleagues away on vacation. It left me really worn out and anxiously looking forward to my own vacation two weeks from now. Catching up on world news was kind of a relaxation after all that. How about you all? How is your summer going so far? A Call for Article 51 Letters There are rules in the UN Charter for the instances of using force. And then there is reality. Perhaps this…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I’ve spent the last four days (long weekend in Hungary) relaxing mostly, but I tried to keep up with the news as well. Here’s a few blog posts of last week’s news for you. Russia and the USA Fight. Syrians Lose. I just don’t think it works this way – like Russia calls Syria saying ‘you guys can let loose and behave badly’. Let’s hope it’s not nearly like this, especially since after quite a few grievous days in Ukraine again, the US-Russian relationship is not likely to improve.  Is Assad Now Using Chlorine to Gas His…

united-nations: 29 April is Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare. It’s the date in 1997 on which the Chemical Weapons Convention entered into force.  This Day provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the victims of chemical warfare, as well as to reaffirm the commitment of Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to the elimination of the threat of chemical weapons, thereby promoting the goals of peace, security, and multilateralism.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful sunshiny weekend! The past week was full of international commemorative days as you might have noticed, although I did not even mark all of them. Now, check out a bunch of other news of the week… Russia Builds Case for Military Intervention in Ukraine All signs seem to point this way. Question is: what the international coummunity’s response will be? We have witnessed how sanctions don’t touch Russia at all. Will A Massacre in South Sudan Actually Change Anything? Mark Leon Goldberg suggests Washington needs to pay attention to South…

Happy first Sunday of February! While preparing for the week ahead, here are some great posts for you to check out. How bad is the situation in Ukraine going to get? It could get very bad indeed. The real question is what would it take for the protesters to give up this time? It really seems they won’t unless the president steps down. The Original Sin of the Syria Chemical Deal With the Geneva talks ending with not much result, it seems the Syrian government is finding its way out of their non-ploriferation obligations as well. Edward Snowden nominated for…

I know it’s a cliché, but time really does fly! While our scary horror Halloween party is still yet to happen due to scheduling issues, Pinterest, as well as malls and supermarkets are already flooded with Christmas stuff. And for me it somehow feels like summer just ended. How about you all? Meanwhile, this was a really busy week in world affairs with a lot of great reads on my favorite blogs. On world affairs: 3 Reasons Why this Iran Breakthrough is a Very. Big. Deal We don’t know how big of a deal exactly it is yet, as talks…

Happy Sunday, everyone! This past one turned out to be only a two day working week for me. I was not so politely asked by my not so polite superior to take some days off while she’s going to be in the office, so we are not gonna have to meet. At one point in my forced holiday (that I have spent out of town) I was even grateful for her, feeling that I really needed these days off. Nevertheless, I spent some time thinking about my future in this job where I mostly have to spend 10+ hours per…
