Happy Sunday, all! I am still not done with the UNGA coverage, there is one more post in the making, to review the major happenings of this past week. The UN Social Media team did a tremendous job throughout the week, be sure check out their space. Envío buenos pensamientos a mis seguidores en México y Puerto Rico. And to everybody else, once again, if you can, please consider donating to help those affected – here you can find a couple of ways to do that. Let’s get to this week’s stories now. So, Has This Ever Happened Before? Let’s…
Happy Sunday, Everybody! Starting with the good part, it is a long weekend in Hungary due to Pentecost Monday, and it also feels like summer around here already! I am doing my best to enjoy it… I started watching season 5 of House of Cards, but unfortunately I don’t really have time to binge it all in one weekend, I am barely halfway yet. Does anybody feel like this season is full of ‘this is/could be Trump’ moments? Most probably this show was always like this, it is political satire after all, we just weren’t aware before that Trump could…
Happy Sunday, people! And happy Memorial Day weekend to all to whom that applies! First of all, this week started in a very sad way. I was inevitably reminded of last year’s Mariah Carey concert that I attended at the same Manchester Arena. This is not about throwing blames and I don’t even know how it worked this time, but last year our packages weren’t inspected at all. Guards only took a quick peek, but in all honesty, I could have anything in the bottom or some side pocket of my shoulder bag, no-one cared to look. Even last year…

Today shows us what is possible when we join forces for our common future,” said United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Happy Sunday! Antonio Guterres was officially appointed by the General Assembly as the 9th Secretary General of the UN this week. I honestly think he is well suited for the role and great things can be expected in his tenure. On a completely different note, Bob Dylan got a Nobel Prize in Literature and although I am only slightly aquainted with his work, I am not at all one of those literature snobs who can’t understand this one. I have always considered song lyrics in the league of poetry (well, the better ones anyway), so congrats is definitely in order…
Happy Fall, everybody! Summer is undeniably over now. As much as I love the summer weather, there are a lot of things to be excited about during autumn too. And I said autumn, let’s not jump ahead, believe it or not, yesterday I heard Christmas music playing in a drugstore! Isn’t it way too early for that?! Anyway, I hope you are having a great time with your choices of fall activities, and cut out some time to do our weekly reading too. Colombia’s Brexit Vote Very interesting, particularly comparing this vote to some others. I shall add that I…
Happy Sunday! After a week of accomplishments and some entertainment during the weekend, I am having a giant headache today that barely lets me function at all. So I am going to keep this short this time, hope you will like this week’s posts. A “Hybrid” Tribunal for Daesh? At the moment the creation of such a court is highly unlikely, nevertheless this is a great hypothetical. Israel Imperiled: An Overview of Threats to the Jewish State Regardless of Israel, this is a great geopolitical overview of the Middle East currently. A Summit Underway in DC is the Future of…
united-nations: “No one, in any nation can avoid the impacts of climate change. We all have a responsibility – and an opportunity – to tackle climate change, starting today and wherever you are”. In his latest LinkedIn Pulse piece, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon explains why countries should sign the Paris Agreement on climate change – and why you should care. Find out here: http://j.mp/1YJ9aNR On this Earth Day, UN member states are signing the Paris Agreement in New York City. Also, this year’s theme is Trees for the Earth: Trees help combat climate change. They absorb excess and harmful CO2 from our atmosphere….
