OK, this is the first time ever with no posts between two Sunday Smacks. That’s how busy I was this week. I had one night at home on Monday packing for London, then I left to London from work Tuesday evening, got back in the middle of the night on Wednesday, and spent the rest of the nights regenerating from the lack of sleep while trying to do my best at work during daytime. I had a wonderful time in London, as always, although it was a painfully short visit, more business than pleasure. Once again, thanks a lot to…
Undoubtedly, the world affairs event of the week is the launch of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. I am planning a detailed post after the end of the General Debate, so now I only feature some great blog posts below, as usual. This next week is going to be very eventful for me as well. On Wednesday I am going to London for a really short profession related trip. I am looking forward to it. It brings a most welcome refreshment in my professional life right now as I am quite unhappy at my current job, mostly…
What to Expect from “UN Week” September is always the busiest month at United Nations Headquarters in New York, and this year is no exception. Check out Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s first LinkedIn post about the most exciting week of the year at the UN.
Who else is excited? 🙂
A very busy and exciting week is about to approach. The next session of the UN General Assembly kicks off next Tuesday and then there’s a bunch of other major world events scheduled around it. First one of course is the Social Good Summit starting today and the Clinton Global Innitiative’s 2013 Annual Meeting will also take place in New York City these coming days. So, there are plenty of world affairs to blog about. I will try to follow the UNGA to be able to give you a detailed analysis like the ones I did last year. While waiting,…
International Day of Peace, 21 September “On this International Day of Peace, let us pledge to teach our children the value of tolerance and mutual respect. Let us invest in the schools and teachers that will build a fair and inclusive world that embraces diversity. Let us fight for peace and defend it with all our might.” UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
united-nations: How strong is your voice? On Sunday’s International Day of Democracy, strengthen your voice on democracy to make it work for all. Find out more here: http://j.mp/9IJA98 More resources from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) are here: ttp://j.mp/181WuYu According to IPU, the Parliament of India (pictured here) will mark #DemocracyDay by hosting a live televised debate on the “Challenges to Indian Democracy” with Members of Parliament, civil society groups, university students and journalists.
Today is International Day of Democracy! “On this International Day of Democracy, I call on leaders to hear, respect and respond appropriately to the voices of the people, whether expressed directly or through elected representatives.” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon This year’s theme is ’Strenghtening Voices for Democracy’. I have mentioned several times here how I am an advocate of the pursuit of making people realize how much they can actually do to form politics around themselves and this way form their own futures. After all, this is what democracy is all about.
Hello everyone, how are things going where you are? The weekend seemed painfully short for me this time, although I really would have a lot of things to rest upon both at work and in life. Maybe some other time. Progress on Syria was so fast this week, that even yesterday’s articles seem outdated. Unfortunately, dynamism does not equal improvement. Nevertheless, I came accross a few good reads. On world affairs: Did The World Just Legitimize The Assad Regime It Spent Years Discrediting? I start with this, because this is actually a really good point. Does the international community…
I finally got around to watch last Monday’s discussion of the Kofi Annan Dialogues. This time the topic was Young People’s Priorities for the Post 2015 Global Development Agenda. Mr. Annan once again emphasized his belief in young people’s role in forming our future and working towards the fulfilment of all the important development goals. Visit http://dialogueslive.kofiannanfoundation.org/ to take part in the online poll about the topic.
