We the peoples…

“… of the United Nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scrouge of war…” starts the preamble of the Charter of the UN. I am no expert to wirte an extensive post about what’s happening in the world right now, and I have a very different post half-prepared (or half-finished) about Russia to be shared sometime, but as everybody, I have thoughts. Instead of pretending to be knowledgeable about this stuff, let me share those. Fanatic as I am about the ideals of the post world war system of international organizations, I have a dove-shaped copy of the above…

Blabbing January 2022

Anyone else feels like January went by in a hurry? I barely got used to writing 2022 and now we are more than a month into the year. I started the year really exhausted after the end of year rush in my workplace, and I was determined to go on vacation for at least a few days. I was even contemplating a foreign trip for early February (just around now), which I haven’t had in a very long time, but that’s not going to happen now either (due to Covid and other reasons). Now I can’t have any days off…

I consume content (therefore I am)

As you would imagine, my opinions are formed by the things I read and watch, and by the people I am around. Not just in person, in my life, but online, the people I follow. Out of everything I consume, reading has the most important place in my life. I’ve been an avid reader since childhood and the touch and smell of a book is still one of my favourite things. Let alone reading in silence with nothing else to do! A rare occurence… My reading time decreased since I started working in my current job, where I spend most…

The world is my hometown

As I was brought up not traveling a lot, and even then not too far from home, it took quite a long time for me to realise that I feel most myself when I am out in the big wide world around the most diverse kind of people. Well, it is not entirely true that we did not travel, because my grandma used to takes us with her visiting her sisters, about 150 kms away (2 hour train ride). And before she grew older, we went quite a lot. We also went on day trips sometimes with my mom and…

Learning is life

When asked about my hobbies I like to say learning for me is a hobby. I enjoy learning new stuff about my own profession and also about other topics just to widen my knowledge. When I took my teacher training courses at university (so I can teach social sciences), life long learning was a relatively new concept. Since I always loved to learn, I immediately embraced the idea, even though it was so foreign to what I knew and grew up with. Being a first generation university graduate, although there were lots of books and reading in our household (which…

Blabbing world affairs

Back when I started blogging, I only knew I wanted to write. After a bit of experimenting I knew I had to pick a theme I was genuinely interested in. So why indeed is it world affairs I decided to be blabbing about? Right after high school I went to learn sociology. At first it was only to prepare for law school and I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to finish it all the way through, but then I became really interested in the topics we’ve learnt about. To this day, I love reading and studying behavioural sciences, mostly…

I’m back (I think)

I haven’t posted in a while, but now I’m on a new platform and full of new ideas. When I first started blogging on Tumblr (back when Tumblr used to be cool, I guess), my goal was to be able to share (reblog, mostly) the ideas and information that most inspired me in the topic of international law and world affairs. Soon, I discovered the directions I wanted to go, and started to create more of my own content. Then as my interests evolved and my free-time became practically non-existent, blogging was less of a priority and the quality of…

Sunday Smack

Happy Sunday everybody! Just when you think this year couldn’t get any weirder, there comes the next thing. It’s hard to imagine where can we go from here… In addition to this week’s selection I hope you’ll check out my post on ms-jd.org, I wrote about some important stuff there. Happy reading! The July 1st march: Another endangered democratic landmark for Hong Kong This issue is getting way less coverage in world news than the graveness of it would deserve. You can support the campaign to support democracy and freedom in Hong Kong at https://www.now.world/freedom. The COVID-19 tracking apps ecosystem unraveled:…
