23 April is a symbolic date for world literature. It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. Earth Day has a special meaning in the year which is crucial for the fight against climate change. This year the United Nations will decide on the Sustainable Development Goals and we will see whether member states are willing and able to take necessary action to preserve our Earth for the next generations.
