Sunday Smack

Hope everybody is well after this week of incredible news. The image I used is from the Daily Mirror frontpage from the day after. You can read its story clicking here. This was one of the best front pages in my opinion, but you can check out a bunch of others clicking here  if you want to. And then there were the publications too. From the immediate expressions of shock through some more resigned expressions of shock to the well thought out analyses. The latter trying to find the reasons will give plenty of job for analysts in the years…

huffpostpolitics: America Elected A Man Who Said ‘Grab Them By The P***y’ Over The First Female President Donald Trump openly bragged about using his celebrity status to sexually assault women. And multiple women accused him of actually doing so. He said he was in favor of banning people from entering the United States based on their religion. He believes that women he finds physically unattractive or overweight are lesser people. He thinks that many Mexican immigrants are rapists. He mocked people with disabilities. He encouraged violence against protesters at his political rallies. For years, he was the most notable person…

Welcome to the 100th Sunday Smack everybody!!! I can’t believe that I am doing this weekly round-up for 100 weeks (= almost two years!) already! The blog itself will turn 4 this summer too!! On this occasion besides thanking you all for reading and sticking with me all through these years I thought it would be best to share my thoughts about this blog with you all. Quite some time ago I decided to do this just to follow the topics I am most interested in. I sure want to continue doing it, and want to do it with more…

Monthly Matters

Doing: Being outdoors really. I work in an air conditioned office building where it is hard to even notice the changing of seasons. So usually I can’t wait to get out, breath some fresh air, and have some fun! I had some of it this August (not nearly enough, though), in the form of late night walks, short trip on the country-side while at home in Nagykálló, even a Danube cruise-trip. Learning: I have already written about Learning How To Learn, I took the 4-week course throughout August and it was so much fun. Highly recommended! Besides that, I was…

Happy August, everybody! I can’t help repeating myself, but how can it be August already? It means 2/3 of this summer went by almost unnoticed by me. I need to speed up on doing all my favorite summer things before it’s really over. By the way, may I now call your attention to an interesting quotation from Hillary Clinton’s Hard Choices? On one of the first pages she cites advices she received from former US Secretaries of State when she got appointed. One of those is from Warren Christopher: “Don’t plan vacations in August because something always seems to happen…

Happy Spring Everybody! In Hungary it really feels like spring already! Unfortunately I don’t have the chance to greet it in a garden, not for the moment that is, but only until next weekend I hope. 🙂 I love sunshine and colours and sunshiny colours and everything that has to do with sunshine and colours, so this is my time! And hot summer days, but you probably know that already. 🙂 There are more serious issues going on in the world, of course, let’s not forget aobut those. Apart from something really disturbing going on in a neigbouring country, the…

Hope you all had a great week and an even better weekend! Here’s a few news stories to look back to: On world affairs: EU reaction to the NSA Affair Well, hacking world leaders’ cell phones is a serious issue. I would even double Lawfare’s Ingrid Wuerth calling it a diplomatic disaster. It is still unclear though how deep this will impact EU-US relations. UPR and Israel Israel has refused to atted its review session of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review, being the first state ever to do so. The rescheduled review is about to take place…

Summer is here!!! Have I mentioned already how summer is my favorite time of the year? I love the kind of heat waves that seem to make everyone else around me suffer. I’m sorry, I just do. And now, one of those heat waves is approaching Hungary, so this is my time! I know, I am always told I should move to some distant part of the world where tempretures and moisture are constantly through the roof. My hair would be a mess all the time, but I would be happy! 🙂 Do you have any suggestions where I should…

huffpostpolitics: Hillary Clinton, Ron Johnson Engage In Heated Exchange At Benghazi Hearing (VIDEO) Although in my opinion it does make a tiny difference whether those four diplomats were killed by protesters or some guys who decided to kill Americans, I think she is doing great. Of course both sides can emphasize parts of the hearings that support their beliefs, I just think she is a true professional and handling this wonderfully. I hope she’ll be back in the game one way or another soon!
