I hope you are having a smooth, relaxing weekend! We keep saying that these things can happen now anywhere, anytime, but if there was ever a place where I couldn’t imagine such a terrible event happening, it would have been Las Vegas. There are times when I am glad to be living in a country where people can’t just walk around with guns. I know that doesn’t mean I am safe, just saying. How many more people will have to die for pro-gun Americans to realize that something needs to be done? Anyway, keep safe, everybody, wherever you are! Although,…

The 72nd session of the UN General Assembly had already started this week, the general debate with all the exciting speeches of world leaders is to come next week. As well as high level meetings and important side events. I will try to follow and report on everything daily, check back here if you are interested! Meanwhile, it was an eventful week, providing much topic for the coming days, here’s some of the best posts. Breaking the Impasse with North Korea There…

Happy April, Everybody! There is wonderful spring weather in Hungary these days, I hope you are also somewhere enjoying spring. There was also wonderful spring weather in London during the short time I have spent there this week, the highlight of which I already shared in a previous post. It was my first time there since the Brexit referendum (las time I visited just a week before that), so I was curious whether anything has changed. I have to say I haven’t noticed anything. The media of course was full of Brexit reports on March 29, but other than that,…

Happy Sunday! I hope this finds you well. One twelfth of this year is already gone, I hope you have spent it great! I spent it studying most of the time and there is one more month ahead doing just that. Then perhaps a little rest. And then more studies. But also some exciting working projects to come in between. How about you all? The disturbing political actions of last weekend have not ceased to be disturbing over the course of the week. Here’s this week’s roundup. UN Says 20,000 Refugees Could Be Immediately Affected By US Ban And many…

Hey everybody! How was you first workweek of 2016? I hope it was better than mine. This is now officially the longest time with no posts at all on the blog, except for all the Sunday Smacks. Which obviously is a must, missing a week would feel like breaking a circle or something – this is now the 143th Sunday Smack and this is really saying something. Even though I had lots of plans for 2016 (with the blog and a lot else), I am just not there right now. Actually, if there ever was a time when I would…

Happy weekend everybody, and happy labor day weekend to all my US readers, who – according to Google Analytics – make up the third largest crowd among my overall readership. BTW, I am still in the process of figuring out why the first place goes to Russia, but then, shoutout to my Russian readers too, anyway! I have never thought I would ever be writing these words, but seriously, I wish my country wouldn’t be on international news that much! Even the daily news roll of my favorite global affairs blog came out one day with the title “Seriously, Hungary?”. And…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope this post finds you all enjoying this one of the final summer weekends of this year. When you are reading this, I am spending my last day at the beautiful Croatian coasts (probably in the clear waters of the Adriatic sea, since this post is pre-scheduled), tomorrow we are heading back home (and to life, and to work). I don’t even try again to insert a photo here (Tumblr app needs some improvement!), check out my Instagram to get a picture (or more) of how and where I spent the days this post was created….

Welcome to the 100th Sunday Smack everybody!!! I can’t believe that I am doing this weekly round-up for 100 weeks (= almost two years!) already! The blog itself will turn 4 this summer too!! On this occasion besides thanking you all for reading and sticking with me all through these years I thought it would be best to share my thoughts about this blog with you all. Quite some time ago I decided to do this just to follow the topics I am most interested in. I sure want to continue doing it, and want to do it with more…

Hope everybody had a great weekend! After an incredibly grey and stormy week in Hungary with a taste of Yvette, summer is expected to arrive next week. And I can’t wait. Here’s a few posts of what I read last week. Syrian Peace Envoy Finally Admits Defeat I tend to agree with SG Ban that it is not Brahimi’s failure. I’d like to think that the problem is not unsolvable after all, even though two high profile diplomats have given up trying already. Then again, I don’t blame neither of them. Welcome to the 50th Sunday Smack! That’s right, the 50th! 🙂 How great that this one is the first Sunday Smack I get to write on my new laptop! Yes, that of course means I have no excuse anymore not to act on all my great ideas regarding this blog (and everything else).  Minus two weeks, I have been doing this for a whole year. It is unbelievable, really, and I have to say I’ve really enjoyed every bit of it, it helps me keep my professional reading in order. I can only hope it’s also useful to at least…
