Unanimously approved, Security Council resolution demands aid access in Syria 22 February 2014 – The United Nations Security Council today unanimously approved a resolution to boost humanitarian aid access in Syria, a move Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said can ease some civilian suffering, if it is implemented quickly and in good faith.

In Single Secret Ballot, General Assembly Elects 14 Member States to Three-Year Terms on Human Rights Council The General Assembly yesterday elected 14 States to serve on the Human Rights Council, the United Nations body responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe. Those elected were Algeria, China, Cuba, France, Maldives, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, United Kingdom and Viet Nam. OK, this is the first time ever with no posts between two Sunday Smacks. That’s how busy I was this week. I had one night at home on Monday packing for London, then I left to London from work Tuesday evening, got back in the middle of the night on Wednesday, and spent the rest of the nights regenerating from the lack of sleep while trying to do my best at work during daytime.
