Madeleine Albright: Diplomacy still possible in Ukraine, if Putin wants solution

Madeleine Albright: Diplomacy still possible in Ukraine, if Putin wants solution A diplomatic solution to the standoff over Crimea is still possible, former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday. “There is a solution,” she said. “There could be more autonomy for Crimea". If Putin wants a solution, but the problem is, no-one knows what Putin wants at this point. But I love Madeleine Albright, that’s why I am sharing this! 🙂 And because it’s a great interview.

Happy Spring Everybody! In Hungary it really feels like spring already! Unfortunately I don’t have the chance to greet it in a garden, not for the moment that is, but only until next weekend I hope. 🙂 I love sunshine and colours and sunshiny colours and everything that has to do with sunshine and colours, so this is my time! And hot summer days, but you probably know that already. 🙂 There are more serious issues going on in the world, of course, let’s not forget aobut those. Apart from something really disturbing going on in a neigbouring country, the…

Happy first weekend of spring and happy Oscars night everybody! So many things to be excited about! There are a lot of exciting (although worrisome) news in world affairs as well thes days… “Maidan” v. Yanukovych et al.: Ukraine and the ICC? While Ukraine never even signed the Rome Statute, one of the first decisions of the new leadership was to prosecute Yanukovych and a few of his men at the ICC. Whether it will be possible to put him on trial (at the ICC or anywhere) is another question. Obama to Putin: ‘There Will Be Costs’ To Invading Crimea…

Is (Or Was) Ukraine in a Non-International Armed Conflict? Hopefully it will remain past tense now, but the question is still legit. Especially considering the way neighboring countries were preparing to deal with the situation, this labeling could have mattered a lot. Robert Mugabe Turns 90 On this occasion here’s…

Kiev protests: A fight over influence of the West

Kiev protests: A fight over influence of the West “Death on the streets, riot shields being thumped and Molotov cocktails thrown are the manifestation, but all this started because of the desire of many Ukrainians to join the EU, and Russia’s feeling this was where its diminution in power had to stop. Putin wants a Eurasian Union to counter the EU and has his own inducement in oil and aid. Ukraine’s strong man has enthusiastically backed that path. Georgia and others in the region, inclined to side with the West, will be watching closely.”

Happy first Sunday of February! While preparing for the week ahead, here are some great posts for you to check out. How bad is the situation in Ukraine going to get? It could get very bad indeed. The real question is what would it take for the protesters to give up this time? It really seems they won’t unless the president steps down. The Original Sin of the Syria Chemical Deal With the Geneva talks ending with not much result, it seems the Syrian government is finding its way out of their non-ploriferation obligations as well.
