Introducing 5 sentences and a few more words on the refugee crisis in Hungary

I was actually planning this feature for quite some time now, I just wish I could launch it with some less difficult topic. The idea is that I take an article I read and write the first five sentences that come to mind about the issue it covers. Meaning I don’t just write about that particular article, but mainly my opinion and whatever else comes to mind. Now about this first topic, it was very hard to do just that. Because I struggled to stop at five sentences, and because just yesterday I got criticized for being silent about this…

Migrants Cross Austria Border From Hungary Thousands of migrants who have been bottled up in Hungary, demanding passage to the West, will be allowed into Austria and Germany, the Austrian chancellor said late Friday. Early Saturday, the first buses carrying them arrived at the Hungary-Austria border. Hungary is  bound to apply the EU rules of registering migrants crossing the Schengen border, as long as they are not registered, they have to be considered illegals, which makes passing through thoroughly difficult. Hungarian actions in the past few days were irrational at best, it seemed like the government was keen on making…

We will not face this unprecedented crisis with single approaches, not with single approaches of single Member States, not with one policy only – be it internal or external. We need a mix of measures and we need most of all Europe to act, fast, in solidarity and taking responsibility. And maybe, finally, we are about to understand that this is not something we can take the luxury of postponing anymore, on all the different issues we have to take decisions on. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini on 3/9/15 following an informal meeting of…

The Global Student’s Introduction to US Law by Levin College of Law, University of Florida on Coursera

The Global Student’s Introduction to US Law by Levin College of Law, University of Florida on Coursera I am back with my MOOC series, I know I promised it would take only a few weeks, I just didn’t have the time to continue for a while. Anyway, the next one is The Global Student’s Introduction to US Law. I took this course last summer on Coursera. I took it during a really busy period at work, so at first I was a little worried about actually making it, but I really enjoyed the whole course, and that somewhat made it…

Sunday Smack

Happy last summer weekend, everybody! I just got back from the beach, as there is a heatwave affecting Hungary again, but I hope you are all enjoying every bit of these last summer moments! As always this time of the year, I am half sad – as summer is my favorite season and I love the hot weather, half excited – as things are revving up  after the long weeks of fun and rest and vacation. September is the most exciting time of year, I was actually surprised to find this to be true even when it’s not about school…

Sunday Smack

Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope this post finds you all enjoying this one of the final summer weekends of this year. When you are reading this, I am spending my last day at the beautiful Croatian coasts (probably in the clear waters of the Adriatic sea, since this post is pre-scheduled), tomorrow we are heading back home (and to life, and to work). I don’t even try again to insert a photo here (Tumblr app needs some improvement!), check out my Instagram to get a picture (or more) of how and where I spent the days this post was created….

Sunday Smack

Happy Sunday everybody!  This is a half pre-written post, as I am spending these days vacationing in Croatia. Here’s what it looks like at the moment. (If any of you happens to know how on earth does one add photo to a text post in Tumblr’s Android app, please let me know, because I have tried, but couldn’t figure it out…) https://instagram.com/p/6c4G9iyG2G/ Insert beach photo here, which I did not have the chance to take yet, for we are locked in by the rain, so this rainy view from our window will have to do for now, the Adriatic sea…

Sunday Smack

Hello everyone, I hope you are all having a great weekend! Some serious heat wave affects Hungary again, and it’s going to stay for quite long this time. Seems like the last week before I head off for vacation is going to be quite hot (that I mostly love!), and it’s going to include loads of work too (something I also mostly love), but I’ll try not to be completely absent from here. Now, how about some Sunday reading? High Drama, UN-Style This could easily be one of the most important documents in the 70 years long history of the…
