Happy Sunday! FINA World Championships are coming to a close today in Budapest, and I was able to witness some great moments there. Check out my Instagram for pics of the swimming competitions and waterpolo matches I attended. The cost of building and organizing the whole thing might have been high, I doubt it compares to what Hungary gained on it, but all I can say is nothing compares to the vibe of cheering your team on a world event, just ten minutes walk from your home (the serious sunburn nice tan I developed during a midday openair waterpolo match is…

Happy Sunday, all! I just love this time of the year around the summer solstice, when the days are the longest. I could spend all night outside reading and taking advantage of even the very last and faintest rays of daylight. I wish I could take the summer and do just that. Read books, sleep and enjoy the sun. But then there are stuff to attend to… Amidst an all American political circus show, many seem to be competing on the who gets blocked by Trump sooner on Twitter race. If only it could really lead to “Trumplessness”, I swear…

Happy Sunday! The first thing I want to mention is actually from last week, but I only got around to listen to last week’s episode of The West Wing Weekly podcast on Sunday after posting Sunday Smack. That episode last week was about Season 3 Episode 5 of The West Wing titled War Crimes. You know how I just love when different territories of my passions meet? The subplot of this TWW episode that the title refers to was about the argument for and against the US participation in a war crimes tribunal. The argument was very relevant when it…

Happy Sunday and happy World Book and Copyright Day! Isn’t this a great occasion for some Sunday reading? I hope you can take some time for that. This has been a busy and interesting week with winter returning to Central Europe (that may or may not be blamed on climate change), ongoing protests in Hungary and elsewhere and of course today’s elections in France. Now let’s do some reading! Referendum Results Risk Further Polarization in Turkey Last week’s referendum is the latest sign that Turkey is moving towards a dangerous direction. ‘Terrorism’ at the World Court: Ukraine v Russia as…

Happy Sunday and Happy Spring Everybody! One failed exam later I am determined to return to the blog and to life and find a different approach for taking this exam. One that doesn’t involve neglecting everything else that matters to me or matters even more than taking an exam I wouldn’t even need later on. I might even write a post about it one of these days. But for now, let’s see this week’s stories. Excuse the hastiness of this post, I had very little time this week. Unconstitutional and Invalid: South Africa’s Withdrawal from the ICC Barred (For Now)…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I can’t believe two months of this year has already gone by. Especially since I don’t remember doing anything else but studying for the past several weeks. One more week of studies before I am done with the first round of the bar exam. That is, if I pass. But let’s not talk negative just yet. I pinned the above photo several years ago and captured it like: “this actually made me miss law school”. I know, I am crazy, right?! And the photo pretty much sums up my life right now, so I can’t complain. Be careful…

Welcome to the 200th Sunday Smack! Less than two weeks to go for the first round of the bar exam, so instead of celebrating, I spend today (and the weekend, and the whole week, and every minute these days for that matter) studying like crazy. Meaning, I really don’t have time to mark the occasion properly, but this is the 200th week I am doing this weekly round-up! 200! Doing something this long, I could almost be proud of the achivement, if it felt like an achivement and not something I enjoy so much. I can only hope you enjoy it…

Happy Sunday! I hope this finds you well. One twelfth of this year is already gone, I hope you have spent it great! I spent it studying most of the time and there is one more month ahead doing just that. Then perhaps a little rest. And then more studies. But also some exciting working projects to come in between. How about you all? The disturbing political actions of last weekend have not ceased to be disturbing over the course of the week. Here’s this week’s roundup. UN Says 20,000 Refugees Could Be Immediately Affected By US Ban And many…

Hello, Everybody! What a week! After some of the most disappointing and saddening scenes we have ever witnessed in politics we have also seen some of the most inspiring scenes just one day apart! I know there are people (mostly Trump supporters, I assume) who would say I and all non-Americans have no right to form an opinion, since he is not our president. Well, thankfully, he is not, but first, many of his actions will affect us all, and second, we do have our fair share of real-life political satire in Hungary, so when I refer to “them” I mean…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope all is going well. Only three more working weeks before Christmas, and an awful lot to do. I get overwhelmed by even trying to plan ahead everything for the coming weeks. There were a lot of world affairs stories to recount this week, and a lot of great posts about everything as well. You can read just a handful of them below. Donald Trump’s Historic Phone Call with Taiwan’s Tsai Ying-wen And there was that, apparently, just the tip of the iceberg. American diplomacy is about to take unimaginable turns. Read about all the other…
