Hey, everybody! Other than the event-of-the-week NATO summit, the Ukrainian truce agreement was the other major news these past days. You will find that neither was covered by my favorite bloggers yet (well, bloggers need days off too…). I am planning to do a post about the NATO summit myself that I didn’t get around to edit yet, so I certainly get that. And just a quick service announcement: I should have announced it in a separate post, but I forgot (well after a near heart attack when I almost deleted the whole blog by accident… yeah, don’t ask…). So,…

Top Kuwait court jails activist over Twitter posts

Top Kuwait court jails activist over Twitter posts Now, how about this? [JURIST] Kuwait’s Supreme Court on Sunday upheld the two-year jail sentence of an opposition online activist for writing tweets found to be offensive to the country’s Emir. After the ruling, activist Hejab Al Hajeri said on his Twitter [official website] account that his “determination is bigger than their jail.” Al Hajeri, a law student in his early 20s, was sentenced by the Emirate’s lower court last April after it found that comments he made on his twitter account were critical of the country’s Emir, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad…

Hey there, everybody! I am back after a very eventful week and a half spent with friends, lots of laughter, London of course, and a few days of work even. Fortunately this one is a long weekend, so I can at least attempt to get some much needed sleep. It has also been a very eventful week world affairs-wise, I couldn’t even keep up with things here. I will try to reflect back on everything I have missed though, in the coming days. Now, I hope you’ll check out what I have read this past week. Starvation in Syria: Is…

Hope everybody had a great weekend! After an incredibly grey and stormy week in Hungary with a taste of Yvette, summer is expected to arrive next week. And I can’t wait. Here’s a few posts of what I read last week. Syrian Peace Envoy Finally Admits Defeat I tend to agree with SG Ban that it is not Brahimi’s failure. I’d like to think that the problem is not unsolvable after all, even though two high profile diplomats have given up trying already. Then again, I don’t blame neither of them. Happy first weekend of spring and happy Oscars night everybody! So many things to be excited about! There are a lot of exciting (although worrisome) news in world affairs as well thes days… “Maidan” v. Yanukovych et al.: Ukraine and the ICC? While Ukraine never even signed the Rome Statute, one of the first decisions of the new leadership was to prosecute Yanukovych and a few of his men at the ICC. Whether it will be possible to put him on trial (at the ICC or anywhere) is another question. Obama to Putin: ‘There Will Be Costs’ To Invading Crimea…

Happy Sunday everybody! As always, welcome to my new readers and thanks to everybody for following! Besides the sad news that lead the last few days’ headlines, this was an eventful week on all counts. Let’s review a few good reads. On world affairs: What is going on in Ukraine? An analysis on the root cause of what seems to evolve to become the second Orange Revolution. While demonstrations still continue in Kiev, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe is about to create an advisory board to investigate the background of these clashes.  Relief for Central African Republic…

Happy Sunday, everyone! This past one turned out to be only a two day working week for me. I was not so politely asked by my not so polite superior to take some days off while she’s going to be in the office, so we are not gonna have to meet. At one point in my forced holiday (that I have spent out of town) I was even grateful for her, feeling that I really needed these days off. Nevertheless, I spent some time thinking about my future in this job where I mostly have to spend 10+ hours per…

Happy Sunday! I hope you are all having a great weekend! Again, I was quite busy at work this past week,as the number of new posts show. I am going to have to work out a new schedule for blogging to be able to keep this thing going. Thanks for everyone for sticking around and a warm welcome to all my new followers! Most of the world affairs news are still on Syria. There were two major events this week, the G20 summit and the EU Foreign Ministers Council, but still only guesses on the possible interveniton. We will probably…

Happy Bastille Day to everybody reading from France! Just when I announced layoff season last week, things got going again. Which I don’t mind at all since I can’t take off time for a holiday this year anyway. Let’s see what I have found worthy of reading and sharing this week. On world affairs: Laura Dean’s Cairo Diary Please keep following Laura Dean’s Cairo Diary on Lawfare. Yes, I am recommending this for the second time, but it really is that good!
