Happy weekend! I hope this finds you well. We are about to see the end of yet another extreme heat wave that affected several parts of Europe, and science says in the years to come, it will only get worse (while others still say climate change is myth).  My Feedly feed was unusually easy to keep clean this week, my favorite bloggers must be on holiday. And there is not much to write about in terms of world affairs too, which I guess, in a certain perspective is good. Souring Relations Between the United States and Russia May Impact North…

Happy Sunday! FINA World Championships are coming to a close today in Budapest, and I was able to witness some great moments there. Check out my Instagram for pics of the swimming competitions and waterpolo matches I attended. The cost of building and organizing the whole thing might have been high, I doubt it compares to what Hungary gained on it, but all I can say is nothing compares to the vibe of cheering your team on a world event, just ten minutes walk from your home (the serious sunburn nice tan I developed during a midday openair waterpolo match is…

After Failure of Crans-Montana Talks, What Next for Cyprus Peace Process?

un-dpa: Secretary-General Antonio Guterres (right) with Espen Barth Eide (left) Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus during Cyprus talks. 30 June 2017. UN Photo/Jean-Marc Ferré There was much anticipation in the run up to the resumed Conference on Cyprus in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, at the end of June 2017. The feeling among many observers of the long-running “Cyprus problem” was that this latest phase of negotiations was the closest the parties – the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots – had come in at least a decade to reaching a settlement. These renewed hopes quickly turned to disappointment, however. In the…

Happy Sunday! Destpite the very eventful week in world affairs, I would start again with something I (and many others) believe is an international issue, being an attack against democracy. You might have heard the law undercutting Central European University in Hungary has been adopted in spite of wide international protests. The protests continue, now the aim is to get President Áder not to sign the legislation. You can sign the petition clicking here. I am not sure whether any of this helps, but please do sign if you haven’t already and share with others! Now, let’s get to all…

Happy Sunday and Happy Spring Everybody! One failed exam later I am determined to return to the blog and to life and find a different approach for taking this exam. One that doesn’t involve neglecting everything else that matters to me or matters even more than taking an exam I wouldn’t even need later on. I might even write a post about it one of these days. But for now, let’s see this week’s stories. Excuse the hastiness of this post, I had very little time this week. Unconstitutional and Invalid: South Africa’s Withdrawal from the ICC Barred (For Now)…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I can’t believe two months of this year has already gone by. Especially since I don’t remember doing anything else but studying for the past several weeks. One more week of studies before I am done with the first round of the bar exam. That is, if I pass. But let’s not talk negative just yet. I pinned the above photo several years ago and captured it like: “this actually made me miss law school”. I know, I am crazy, right?! And the photo pretty much sums up my life right now, so I can’t complain. Be careful…

Happy 2017 everybody!  I hope this finds you happy and healthy. As is now sort of my habit around the New Year, I present you with a round-up of round-ups in the first Sunday Smack of 2017. Enjoy! After reviewing 2016, let’s see…

I wish everybody a peaceful, relaxing holiday filled with love and joy! Whatever religion you follow, I hope you are spending these days surrounded by loved ones, doing things you enjoy. I wish I could present you with some light topics this weekend, but this was actually a pretty eventful week in terms of world affairs. Here’s your reading. Security Council Passes New Aleppo Resolution. Monitors to Be Deployed Hopefully the Security Council can now take real actions to put an end to the bloodshed that’s been going on for too long. Happy Sunday, everybody! I hope all is going well. Only three more working weeks before Christmas, and an awful lot to do. I get overwhelmed by even trying to plan ahead everything for the coming weeks. There were a lot of world affairs stories to recount this week, and a lot of great posts about everything as well. You can read just a handful of them below. Donald Trump’s Historic Phone Call with Taiwan’s Tsai Ying-wen And there was that, apparently, just the tip of the iceberg. American diplomacy is about to take unimaginable turns. Read about all the other…

Happy Sunday! I hope you all had a great week trying to figure out your stance on all issues affecting your lives these days. I was determined not to post about the President-Elect anymore until some new story comes up, but I didn’t have much choice, most of the blogs I follow were full of predictions (but mostly yet unanswered questions) of what’s to come in world affairs. On a more delightful note, it is Gilmore Girls week! Which coincides with Thanksgiving weekend in the US, and Black Friday all over the world. So I hope you’ll have a happy…
