Happy Sunday Everybody! I hope you are all savouring your last weeks of summer this time around (unless you live somewhere where it is summer all year round in which case I envy you, or somewhere where it is not summer these months in which case let me know when it is summer already, then I want to go there). This week it was really down-season around the office for me, but at least coming back from vacation did not hurt that much. August 20 is also a National Day in Hungary, so when I am writing this (scheduled post…

Happy Sunday and happy summer everybody! After half a week of vacation at lake Balaton, a wonderful Plácido Domingo concert in Budapest, half a week of staycation in Nagykálló including some old school meteor shower watching, I will be back to work tomorrow. Let’s see what else happened this week. Russia’s Lawful Land Grab This comes on the week when Ukraine claims Russia is arranging military moves on their borders again. Can a New Peacekeeping Force Stabilize South Sudan? UN peacekeeping has a bad reputation these days. In theory I do think it can do wonders, but in practice it…

Happy Sunday, everybody! As of today, I am off to vacation, so this is a pre-scheduled post. I had an unexpectedly busy week with lots of work to do and so little time remaining for other important things. Among the latter: taking the final exam of the International Law in Action: A Guide to the International Courts and Tribunals in The Hague course I participated in recently on Coursera. I managed to finish the course Saturday night. Midnight, to be exact, after a tiresome day of touristing around (with a real tourist) in Budapest, and, uhm, also a glass of wine….

Happy Sunday! Can you believe it is almost August already? Only 1/3 of this summer remains, make sure to cherish the good times, that’s what I am going to do starting next weekend! Only one workweek to go… Also, do you know how it is, when a certain thing is going on in your life, and suddenly you find tons of articles in that topic without even looking? Like it’s not even you who finds them, but the other way around. Well, that is sort of what’s happening to me lately, follow me on Twitter, where I usually share my…

Hello, everyone! Another week with unspeakable tragedies in the world, I hope everyone is doing fine! In the coming weeks I am experimenting with some new ideas around here on the blog, which will slightly shake up these Sunday round-ups too. I hope you like a little variety. So this week, I seem to have finalized the schedule of my vacation week. Two weeks to go, it is going to be short, but I will make sure it’s going to be great. Speaking of greatness, have you watched the First Lady’s episode of Carpool Karaoke on the Late Late Show…

Happy Sunday! Again, I hope everybody is safe this weekend! After a very eventful and exciting few days in international law, let’s recap some of the biggest stories of the week. Failed coup: 250 dead, 1400 injured, 2,839 detained I did not come across a proper blog post about this so far, but still had to include it. What is happening in the world? Turkey used to be a peaceful holiday location not so long ago. China’s Legacy Maritime Claims If you are an international lawyer, or follow international law news sites and blogs you couldn’t have not heard about…

Happy Sunday! Considering all the sad events that have taken place around the world just this past week, let’s all actually take time to be grateful if we are fortunate enough to live in circumstances where wars, displacement, bombings, mass shootings and the likes are unimaginable. A huge proportion of the world’s populace would do anything to be in our shoes, so let’s appreciate life accordingly! While you’re at it, take some time to read too! Brexit and International Law I am not sure when these legal uncertainties will stop to be interesting, but I don’t suppose it is going…

Happy Sunday! The world of politics and world affairs were full of unhappy news this past week. Here’s some of the best reads from my favorite blogs… Just Six Years Ago at the UN, These Five Countries Refused to Even Mention Violence Against LGBT Communities. They Have Evolved. This one’s about the UN Security Council’s statement to condemn the Orlando massacre, and I am not sure I would also draw long term consequences from it. Wolves and Wolf Packs And still on the sideline of Orlando, a few wise words about the organization of perpetrators of such hienous acts. Belgium’s…

Happy Sunday, people! After a busy early summer week, here’s some reading for you all… In Mali, peacekeepers have become the target of an insurgency. This is unprecedented The deadliest UN peacekeeping mission so far provides (urges, actually)  the opportunity to rethink the concept of peacekeeping.  Should the U.S. Military Receive the Benefit of the Doubt When Investigating Itself for Alleged War Crimes? Perhaps they should. But it is still annoying that that is exactly what the international community set up the whole system of international jurisdiction for all those years ago, and they still cannot make themselves to comply…

Happy Sunday and happy long weekend for those who are having a long weekend due to Memorial Day tomorrow! Here is your weekly reading… Greece is Emptying It’s Largest Refugee Camp. The Timing Could Not Be Worse This is a great post not just about Greece emptying the camp at Idomeni, but about the actions behind politicians’ words. All on occasion of the World Humanitarian Summit. The WHO just started counting attacks against health workers. There is a trend. The fact that there is a reason to count in the first place is bad enough. The fact that there is…
