Happy New Year Everybody! Welcome to the first Sunday Smack of 2015, and the 90th altogether! There is a celebration due in ten weeks! 🙂 If I said last week was down time in blogosphere, this one was even “downer”. And I can’t say I am longing to go back to working weekdays either. I guess I’ll feel different about it once I’m back in the saddle already. I have some important career goals for 2015 too! I am thinking of ways to share them here with you all and create a career feature on this page. How would you…

Happy Holidays Everybody! And thank you so much for taking the time to read even on this last Sunday before Christmas! A lot of things happened in the world this week, partly sad, partly exciting (just like my life right now). Here’s what my favorite bloggers blogged about. The Sony Hack: Will the United States Take Countermeasures Against North Korea? And even more so, what kind of measures will they be? International law provides a series of possibilities. The ICC’s Rough December I have posted about these before too, but the ICC still seems to be having a hard time…

Happy Sunday, people! How is everybody doing? After a four day long weekend in Hungary I feel like I am in the process of really recovering. I know, I said that quite a few times in the past 6+ weeks, but this time it must be for real. I have so many plans for when I will be well enough to do things! I want to be able to do things and go to places again so bad! Well, at least I was still able to read, I hope you’ll check out these posts from last week. Why Banning Travel…

Happy Sunday, everybody! This is a pre-scheduled post from Friday, so I hope nothing has happened during the weekend that could make it inappropriate. While you are reading I am probably somewhere out there trying to catch up with this summer I almost missed altogether. We are having an incredibly boring down time in my workplace recently (usual August in the public sector I guess), I am constantly joking that if I did not have all  these writing and learning to do, I would probably have started looking for a new job already. But seriously. Summer is my favorite season,…

Happy August, everybody! I can’t help repeating myself, but how can it be August already? It means 2/3 of this summer went by almost unnoticed by me. I need to speed up on doing all my favorite summer things before it’s really over. By the way, may I now call your attention to an interesting quotation from Hillary Clinton’s Hard Choices? On one of the first pages she cites advices she received from former US Secretaries of State when she got appointed. One of those is from Warren Christopher: “Don’t plan vacations in August because something always seems to happen…

How is it going for everybody? Crazy working hours continued this week for me, even had to bring stuff home for the weekend, and I am in such a need of a holiday right now, I can’t even tell. I’m dreaming of doing absolutely nothing for a day. Or even half a day would be fine. Just one more week of work until then. Hope you’ll like what I found especially interesting this week. Forced Migration as a Weapon of War in Iraq and Beyond The numbers are disturbing as to how many people are forced to leave their homes…

Happy Sunday, everybody! After the last long weekend, this one was a one day weekend in Hungary, and I can’t believe tomorrow’s Monday already, I would have needed so much more sleep. And staying up for ESC last night did not help. About that: I am really saddened by all the hate that’s pouring my social media streams from Hungary. Normally I like to think that we are way over this stone aged thinking, just to realize time and again that we are so not. For me, the song itself wasn’t my favorite at all, so I did not think…

united-nations: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recently visited war-torn Central African Republic, where the security situation is deteriorating and human rights abuses continue. “My first message is to the people of the country: You are not alone. The United Nations is honoured to be by your side,” he said. On Thursday the UN Security Council established a peacekeeping mission in the country which, as of September, will comprise of up to 10,000 military personnel. Find out more in this video. Ugandan tabloid prints list of ‘homosexuals’

Ugandan tabloid prints list of ‘homosexuals’ A tabloid newspaper in Uganda has come out with a list of what it called the country’s top homosexuals. Unbelievable. A day after the signing of anti-gay laws in Uganda… It is sad how these countries in Africa are going back in time instead of developing (Nigeria’s president signed something similar recently).

Happy Sunday, people! How is everybody doing this weekend? Sorry I haven’t updated at all this last week. I am now trying a regular schedule for blogging, so this wouldn’t happen too often. This past week was not so eventful in world news though, except for the Olimpics of course, which is most definitely a world event.  These are the posts I have to share with you for now. CRC Concluding Observation on the Holy See Well it’s quite obvious what the observations of the UN Committee of the Rights of the Child is about when it comes to the…
