Happy Sunday! This was a very busy week both in terms of world affairs and in my life. I am yet to find the holiday spirit, maybe next week, when Santa Claus officially comes to Hungary and I am going to see The Nutcracker too. Nothing says Christmas more like The Nutcracker, right? Anyway, I hope you are having a great weekend, and have some time to read. An Eventful Day in The Hague: Channeling Socrates and Goering Really, when we all thought there could be no more suprises left in these proceedings one of the defendants made the conclusion…

Happy Sunday! I have been informed last night (!) that today was going to be the first Sunday of Advent. With everything going on during the end of the year, it was quite a surprise, but I try to cope. I hope those of you celebrating had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, but I say all the rest of us could use a little gratitude in our lives. I hope you have some time to read today. The Mladic judgment and the none ‘not guilty’ verdict This long awaited judgment of the ICTY before it concludes held little surprise for those familiar…

Happy Sunday, everybody! I really can’t believe it is almost December already, and it’s less than four weeks to go until Christmas. Another year has gone by so quickly. Due to Thanksgiving, we weren’t overwhelmed with earthshaking news this week, except for the death of a certain dictator, perhaps. Meanwhile I suffered a moderate cold and a major exhaustion this week, so after finishing off a project on Wednesday, I took two days off to do nothing, but things I enjoy (which more or less I did). For one thing, I am done watching ¾ of the Gilmore Girls revival,…

Happy first Sunday of Advent! How can it be Advent already, when I feel like I have just returned from summer vacation, is beyond me. But it is. There is only one month left for our 2015 goals, and time to think about new ones for the new year! The year in world affairs is far from being over yet, though. One of the most important diplomatic events of 2015 kicks off tomorrow in Paris. UN member states will gather in Paris in the next two weeks for the UN conference on climate change. Long negotiations are to be expected,…

Happy Holidays Everybody! And thank you so much for taking the time to read even on this last Sunday before Christmas! A lot of things happened in the world this week, partly sad, partly exciting (just like my life right now). Here’s what my favorite bloggers blogged about. The Sony Hack: Will the United States Take Countermeasures Against North Korea? And even more so, what kind of measures will they be? International law provides a series of possibilities. The ICC’s Rough December I have posted about these before too, but the ICC still seems to be having a hard time…

Happy Sunday Everybody! We are just about to start the last full week before Christmas. I hope your preparations are going well. It was a busy week in world affairs with a lot of great posts, of which I tried my best to choose from. Hope you’ll enjoy! Torture is Always Illegal, No Matter What Results It May Produce The CIA Torture Report is by far the most written about story of this past week. Just last week I wrote that in my belief there might be situtations when different laws should apply and I stand by this opinion. That…

Happy Sunday, people! I hope your holiday season has been merry and joyful so far! Let’s see what bloggers found worthy of posting about this week. The Race to Replace the MDGs Has Officially Begun Time is running out the Millenium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals that are going to replace them are being worked out. Happy first day of December and first day of Advent everybody! It doesn’t really feel very Christmassy or even pre-Christmassy for me yet, as it is a bright sunshiny day in Hungary. Some snow would help me get in the mood. A white, snowy Advent and Christmas would surely be nice, but right after the holidays, can it be hot summer again, please? Besides all the other excitements that December holds, I am starting at a new job tomorrow that I am really looking forward to. I wish every one of my readers such an eventful and joyous December that…
